A young man shaping his future, despite a difficult start
Otis**, aged 19, is feeling remarkably calm despite the challenges and pressure he faced in the past. “The journey may be long, but I am almost there,” Otis** remarked.
At SOS Children’s Village, Otis** was enrolled in Hermann Gmeiner School in Monrovia, where he got primary and secondary education. He defied the odds to complete secondary school – taking full advantage of the range of support provided by SOS Children’s Villages and partners.
After receiving his diploma along with twenty-eight others, Otis** reflects on his childhood. “Life starts differently for everyone. But you can always work towards being successful regardless of where you were born or raised,” he said.
Otis** believes that once there is education, there is always hope. For him, the journey to the future is not roses, but always we should look forward. “No one can change the past, but we can change the future,” says Otis**
Otis** is filled with joy and confidence. He hopes to continue his studies after high school. “My hard work throughout all these years brought me this far. I am happy,” he exclaims cheerfully.
Despite the challenges, Otis** did not allow anything to stop him from completing high school. His caregiver love and commitment to his education were his motivation throughout his early school days.
“SOS Children’s Villages is my first home. It is special to me. It provided me with important things needed – including books and electricity. The people around me also really supported and motivated me,” he added.
