LIBERIA’S DIGITAL FUTURE GETS A BOOST AS 150 YOUNG PEOPLE COMPLETE TECH TRAINING

Monrovia, Liberia — At a time when digital skills are increasingly shaping economies around the world, 150 young people in Liberia have taken a significant step toward becoming part of the country’s emerging digital workforce.

The graduates, trained in Computer Literacy and Digital Marketing through a collaboration between SOS Children’s Villages in Liberia and the Orange Foundation, are now equipped with practical skills designed to enhance employability and foster entrepreneurship.

According to SOS Children’s Villages in Liberia, initiatives such as these are critical as Liberia seeks to expand opportunities for youth and strengthen participation in the digital economy. Among the graduates was a participant, Massa Nimely, who described the training as transformative.

“A certificate is more than a piece of paper—it is proof of perseverance, growth, and ambition. Today, I feel prepared to pursue opportunities that once seemed beyond my reach,” Massa said.

Addressing participants, the Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection highlighted the broader significance of youth-focused digital education.

“To our graduates, continue learning, continue growing, and continue believing in your ability to shape a better future,” said Minister Tokpah. Congratulations and thank you, Minister added.

The Orange Foundation reiterated its commitment to expanding digital inclusion and empowering the next generation.

“Our goal is to ensure that young people have access to the knowledge and tools needed to thrive in a digital world. I encourage you to go out and explore every opportunity,” Uomah Brown-Witherspoon, Senior Manager, Orange Foundation Liberia, noted.

The National Director of SOS Children’s Villages in Liberia emphasized that youth empowerment remains central to sustainable development.

“Every graduate here represents an investment in Liberia’s future. By equipping young people with practical skills and confidence, we are helping create pathways toward employment, innovation, and self-reliance,” said Leul Abera, Acting National Director, SOS Children’s Villages in Liberia.

As Liberia continues to embrace technological advancement, the newly trained graduates are expected to play a growing role in bridging digital divides and contributing to economic growth.
