SOS Children’s Villages in Liberia Strengthens Education Quality with Weeklong Teacher Training in Grand Bassa

SOS Children’s Villages in Liberia successfully concluded a week-long comprehensive teacher training as part of its “Enhancing Access to Quality Education” initiative in Liberia. This remarkable effort represents a significant leap forward in educational development within Grand Bassa County.

A dedicated group of 120 teachers and educators in Buchanan participated in this intensive training, designed to strengthen classroom safety, inclusiveness, and the overall quality of learning. The training emphasized essential themes, including child protection, trauma-informed practices, and positive decision-making in the classroom. Participants were equipped with practical tools to effectively address the social and emotional needs of children while nurturing their academic growth and excellence.

Elber Nosolini, the National Director of SOS Children’s Villages in Liberia, eloquently described the initiative as a strategic investment in the future of Liberia’s youth. “True quality education transcends textbooks. When teachers embrace child protection and trauma-informed approaches, they cultivate safer environments where children can thrive and realize their potential,” he remarked.

Tony Gbeh, representing the County Education Officer (CEO) for Grand Bassa County, enthusiastically welcomed the initiative, stating, “This training not only enhances the capacity of our teachers but also reinforces our commitment to nurturing inclusive and child-friendly schools throughout the county.”

Participant Weniba Paye shared how the training profoundly reshaped her perspective as an educator: “I now possess the skills to better identify and respond to children who may be struggling emotionally. This training has truly transformed how I approach my students.”

As Liberia endeavors to tackle learning gaps and child protection challenges in its schools, the capacity-building efforts of SOS Children’s Villages in Liberia for teachers and educators embody a powerful and scalable strategy for improving educational outcomes—one dedicated teacher and one enriched classroom at a time.
